NYC EVENT: Halloween 2017 in New York City - Village Parade (PHOTOS)

Halloween 2017 was a scary day in New York City. But they (myself included, so maybe a "we") persevered, pushing through the fear to continue living their lives and embracing all the freedoms we enjoy in this country.

I was getting my costume in order when news broke about the attack on the West Side Highway. At the time I was still in the house, it seemed a case of escalated road rage but may be linked to terrorism. No one was saying anything about the parade that was to start in 3 hours, so I ended up calling NYPD myself to find out if it was still on or there were any delays. Community Affairs verified it was still happening. Inspired by WWII Londoners, and everyone else who has managed to find love and light through fear and daily life threats, I drove down to the city, ready to celebrate life with fellow creative humans.

Aside from a larger presence than usual of NYPD and armed security looming in every shadow and on every corner, you would never know anything had happened only a few short blocks away earlier in the afternoon. It's sad and joyful all at the same time that life goes on when you were not directly impacted like the families and loved ones of those we lost that afternoon. I chose to continue with my plans with the hope it would take some satisfaction away from the man who committed the act, as well as to go on in memory of the people who paid the unexpected price of enjoying a pretty October afternoon in the greatest city on Earth. I love NYC, even if I'm cursing at all of the drivers and pedestrians around me as I drive in, out and around that wonderful town! And, I love Halloween. So, without further ado, here are my photos of the NYC Village Halloween Parade. I've picked out my favorites and posted them below, but you can view the entire album here.
