CONCERT REPORT: Limp Bizkit at Mohegan Sun Arena

Limp Bizkit at Mohegan Sun, May 2022

Limp Bizkit never went away since they exploded onto the Rock scene in the late 90’s. But they seem to have experienced a publicity resurgence. In the Summer of 2021, HBOMax put out a documentary on the notorious Woodstock 1999 festival which (as every other retrospective on the weekend of chaos and crime does) focuses on Limp Bizkit’s set as a noticeable turning point to many. In my opinion, to those who don’t understand how much was obvious before they ever took the stage. But that’s another post for another time.

I attempted to see Limp Bizkit last Summer in Asbury, but it was unfortunately canceled just before door time due to a covid positive test result within their camp. That was a huge letdown of course, causing unnecessary commutes on the part of a lot of people. But singer Fred Durst went outside and greeted the fans who took the time to come out and thank them, take pictures, talk to them… just about whatever interaction they wanted. So that was at least something that made the voyage worthwhile. And yes, Fred wore the Coachella wig even during this offstage appearance.

This time around, there were no complications and the show at Mohegan Sun went on as planned. The set decor was unusual, which is usual of this band, having seen spaceships and giant toilets as backdrops back in the day. This time an exaggerated version of a living room, complete with a la-z-boy chair for Fred and a giant, inflatable chain-smoking vacuuming Mom was the vibe of choice. Not exactly sure what the reason was, but sometimes it’s better not to ask questions and just accept that Fred & Co. want what they want. And that includes wardrobe choices like wigs.

Their set was a lot tighter than I’ve seen in the years they weren’t so much in the forefront of music. Not that those were bad shows, but it felt a little disjointed at times due to random DJ breaks playing other people’s music or on one night, Wes and Fred having a laugh for way too long amongst themselves between songs. So the flow would feel off (for me anyway). I didn’t remember the shows I went to from 1999-2004 being quite that loose. But in present times, something felt better. A better balance between creating a casual party atmosphere and putting on a kickass show. Based on that night, I highly suggest anyone that wants to see what the fuss is about with this band take the chance and check them out.
